Four Indian girls, including Mahi Siwach and Palak Jambre, have booked their place in the finals of the ASBC Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championships. In the tournament going on in Jordan’s capital Amman on Tuesday, all the four players ensured medals by reaching the title match.

Mahi started the day on a good note for India by defeating Saden Alramhi of Jordan in the semi-finals of the 46kg category. Mahi took an aggressive approach from the beginning and the referee stopped the match in the third round and declared the Indian boxer the winner. Palak too showed an aggressive approach in the semi-finals of the 48kg category, beating Kazakhstan’s Gaukhar Jarden 5-0 with an easy 5-0 win.
Vini and Yakshita also entered the finals with easy wins. Winnie (50kg) defeated Dalya Al-Samarre of Iraq, while Yakshika defeated Shakhnaz Terzhanova of Kazakhstan 5-0.
India has ensured 21 medals in the junior category of this competition. In this tournament, matches for both men’s and women’s age groups (youth and junior) are being played together.
India had earlier won 39 medals, including 14 gold, at the 2021 Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championships in Dubai.
In the girls’ section, 11 boxers assured medals by reaching the semi-finals, while Nirjhara Bana (above 80kg) will play directly in the final. In the junior boys category, nine boxers secured medals by entering the semi-finals.
The country’s young male boxers Viswana (63.5kg) and Anand Yadav (54kg) had made it to the semi-finals on Monday night after winning their matches by an equal 5-0 margin. The last silver-medallist Viswana defeated Mohammad Parsi of Iran while Anand defeated Buzzamekhar Iksanov of Tajikistan. India’s Ayush (57kg), Rudra Pratap Singh (60kg) and Anjani Kumar Mumana (67kg) however lost in the quarterfinals.
Apart from India, 352 boxers from 21 countries including Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are participating in the competition. The finals will be played on March 13 and 14.
