In view of the reduction in corona cases, the Election Commission has relaxed the 50 percent limit on political parties, candidate meetings, rallies, road shows. However, other existing provisions relating to campaigning will continue.

The Election Commission had earlier banned public rallies and road shows in electoral states till January 15 in view of the increasing cases of corona not only in the electoral states but across the country. Later it was extended till January 22, increasing its deadline.
While announcing the dates of elections in five states on January 8, the Election Commission had said that political parties should campaign through digital, virtual, mobile. Apart from this, the use of traditional means of physical promotion should be minimized.
Earlier on Sunday, the Election Commission had given a big relief to political parties regarding the number of star campaigners. The Election Commission had reinstated the number of star campaigners. That is, now as before, all national and state parties having the status of political parties will be able to field 40 star campaigners in their election campaign. Apart from this, such parties which are registered but have not got the status of national or state party, they have got the freedom to campaign by 20 star campaigners. In October 2020 itself, the commission had reduced the number of star campaigners from 40 to 30 of the parties having national and state party status. Apart from this, the number of star campaigners for other parties was reduced from 20 to 15.
Significantly, the Election Commission had announced elections in five states of the country in a total of seven phases. So far, three phases of voting have been done. Now there are four steps left.
