Lucknow . The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh will investigate the incident of attack on police constables at Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur. The team of ATS jawans has reached Gorakhpur.
Significantly, a man tried to forcibly enter the Gorakhnath temple complex in Gorakhpur on Sunday night.
Armed with a sharp weapon, he attacked two constables, who tried to stop him. He was raising slogans of ‘Allahu Akbar’ during the incident.
The attacker, identified as Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi, dodged the security personnel at the temple for about ten minutes before being overpowered.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the head priest (mahant) of the Gorakhnath temple and has a private residence here.
According to the police, the accused forcibly tried to enter the temple premises by chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’.
Gorakhpur Zone Additional DG Akhil Kumar said, “The accused tried to enter the temple with a sharp weapon, after which two of our constables were injured.”
The ADG said that the incident is also being investigated from the terrorist angle.
