Automobile companies have released the sales figures for the month of February. The country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki has registered an increase in sales in February. At the same time, Tata Motors, the second largest automaker, continued to dominate in February as well. While Toyota Kirloskar has registered a decline of 38 percent in sales in February. Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday announced that it sold a total of 164,056 cars in February. The carmaker also said that it recorded the highest ever monthly sales last month with 24,021 units. India’s largest carmaker also claimed that it sold a total of 137,607 units in the domestic market last month. Maruti Suzuki has also said that its total domestic passenger vehicle (PAV) sales in February stood at 1,33,948 units as against 1,44,761 units in the same month a year ago.
Tata Motors sales up 27%
Tata Motors sold 73,875 units domestically in February, registering a 27 per cent increase in annual sales rate. The company had sold 58,366 units in February 2021. Tata Motors said sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market last month grew by 47 per cent to 39,981 units as against 27,225 units in the same month last year. Total domestic commercial vehicle sales increased by 9 per cent to 33,894 units as against 31,141 units in the year-ago period.
Mahindra Sales Figures
Mahindra’s auto segment posted total sales of 54,455 units in February, a growth of 16.34 per cent over the previous month. The company says that due to the chip shortage, car sales also increased by 38.56% to 27,663 units compared to January. According to Vijay Nakra, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, strong demand was witnessed across all segments including SUVs, which registered the highest ever monthly sales. However, there was a decline in agriculture segment sales. Tractor sales stood at 20,437 units in February, down 9.8 per cent over the previous month.
