new Delhi. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and apprised him of the ground situation in the state. Though the details of the meeting held at Shah’s residence were not shared, it is understood that the situation in West Bengal’s Birbhum district’s Baguti village after eight people, including three women and two children, were burnt alive on March 21. The Governor of Bengal must have apprised the Home Minister.
A source in the ministry said they have requested Shah for a speedy inquiry into the matter.
Dhankhar has been critical of the Mamata Banerjee-led state government in West Bengal and has been expressing deep dissatisfaction with its working.
On March 24, Mamata Banerjee had visited Bogtui village, where eight people were burnt to death. The Trinamool Congress chief met the affected families and some villagers.
The case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the Calcutta High Court, despite the state government’s strong plea for a probe by the state police.
Clashes broke out in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday after legislators of the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP demanded Mamata Banerjee to speak in the House on the law and order situation in the state. .
