X (Twitter) Banned in Pakistan: Elon Musk’s social media platform X has been banned in Pakistan. Users have not been able to access X since the general elections held in Pakistan this year. The Pakistan government has now imposed a temporary ban on Musk’s social media platform. The Government of Pakistan has imposed this ban on X citing national security.
According to Reuters report, Twitter (X) is not working in Pakistan since February 2024. This ban imposed by the government confirms the long suspension of the social media platform. Many users have also confirmed the ban on X through VPN (Virtual Private Network).
In February this year, many Pakistani users had shared the problem of not being able to use X on other social media platforms. According to the report, the Minister of Internal Affairs in the Government of Pakistan has confirmed the ban on X by filing an affidavit in the court. However, no official announcement has been made by the government to ban X.
Cited security reasons
In an affidavit filed in a Pakistani court, the government said, ‘It is very relevant to mention here that the imposition of the ban is necessary due to the failure of Twitter/X to comply with the lawful instructions of the Government of Pakistan and address the concerns regarding misuse of its platform. Done.’ X has not yet issued any statement in this matter.
Users are worried since February
During the general elections held on February 8 in Pakistan, the government there blocked many social media platforms. Internet services were also shut down across Pakistan on the day of voting. However, after the elections, many social media platforms started working as before but X users were not able to access it. Sindh High Court of Pakistan had also ordered the Telecom Authority there to restore the service of social media platform X, but the government has not restored the service of X again. Now the government has filed an affidavit in the court calling X a threat to national security.
