Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Islamabad: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has received a big setback from the court. On Thursday, a district court rejected the petition of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, in which it was requested to suspend the sentence given to them in the illegal marriage case. Due to this, it now seems difficult for Imran Khan to come out of jail soon. Let us tell you that on February 3, the District and Sessions Court sentenced the couple to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 each in the case.
This case is commonly known as the Iddat case. Iddat is the period that a Muslim woman has to spend before remarrying after the death of her husband or divorce. Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka had reserved the verdict on Tuesday after hearing the case. The judge pronounced the verdict on Thursday in a packed courtroom that the petition filed by the couple is dismissed. This decision has dealt a blow to the efforts to release the couple lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
Many cases are registered against Imran
Several cases are registered against former Prime Minister Khan (71) while his wife Bushra (49) is also facing several cases. The illegal marriage case was filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khanwar Maneka in November 2023. He alleged that Bushra married Khan without completing the mandatory Iddat period. Maneka appealed to invalidate the marriage of Khan and Bushra. Khan and Bushra Bibi got married in 2018. Bushra is the third wife of Imran Khan. (Language)
