Generally, rates on most toll highways in the country are increased from April 1, but the Election Commission said that the new rates should be implemented only after the Lok Sabha elections. This has provided immediate relief to lakhs of people. Now after the general elections, there will be a shock due to increased toll rate.
Instructions to postpone toll fee increase
According to the documents, ECI has asked NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) to defer the toll fee increase. ECI said this in response to a letter from the Minister of Road Transport and Highways in this regard. It was believed that toll fees would increase by an average of five percent. A senior NHAI official said that the toll fee is changed every year based on the change in inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index. Elections for the 18th Lok Sabha in the country will begin on April 19 and will continue till June 1. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
‘One vehicle, one fastag’ implemented
The ‘one vehicle, one Fastag’ norm of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has come into effect from Monday. The objective is to discourage the use of one FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple FASTags with one vehicle. A senior official said that now more than one Fastag cannot be installed on a vehicle. He said, “Those who have multiple Fastags for one vehicle will not be able to use them from April 1.” Public sector unit NHAI, in view of the problems faced by vehicle owners using Paytm Fastag, has issued a ‘One Vehicle, the deadline for compliance with the ‘Fastag’ initiative was extended till March 31.
