Justice Purnendu Singh of the High Court said during a decision that the Bihar government could not implement the prohibition properly. Due to this, incidents of crime are happening continuously. The court also linked the continuous increase in crime in 9 categories with prohibition.
Justice Singh made the remarks during the hearing of a bail application in the matter of purchase of liquor. He said that due to lack of proper prohibition, cases of drug abuse, drug smuggling, vehicle theft and illicit liquor deaths among minors are continuously coming to the fore. The court said that this is adversely affecting the people living in Bihar and also the environment. Justice Singh said that before prohibition, cases of smuggling of charas and ganja were rare. Now they are also increasing. People are also drinking charas and ganja a lot.
The court said that due to non-availability of liquor, illegal spurious liquor is being sold. Hundreds of people have lost their lives because of this. Let us tell you that there are cases of drinking alcohol in Bihar every day. Whereas, Nitish Kumar has even kept the jail sentence for this.
