Kolkata: The BJP sent a complaint to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Saturday, March 30, alleging that Trinamool used a guest house of the Malda Zilla Parishad to hold an internal party meeting on Thursday, in clear violation of the model code of conduct. There is a violation. The BJP also claimed in its complaint that Trinamool’s Malda district president Abdur Rahim Baksi called and chaired a meeting to finalize the election strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP claimed that two candidates of the ruling party from Malda district – Prasun Banerjee from Malda North and Shahnawaz Ali Raihan from Malda South were also present in the meeting. The BJP said that using state government property for organizational activities by any political party after the announcement of election dates is a clear violation of the MCC.
Abdur Rahim Baksi denied the allegations
Admitting that a meeting was organized at the said guest house on Thursday, Abdur Rahim Baksi denied violation of MCC. He claimed that prior permission was taken from the competent authorities. However, he refused to specify from which ‘competent authority’ the permission was taken.
