The BJP has made Sunil Jakhar, who joined the saffron party from the Congress in Punjab, Babulal Marandi in Jharkhand, D Purandeshwari in Andhra Pradesh and G Kishan Reddy as chiefs of Telangana. These changes of BJP are being linked to the 2024 elections. All four are states where the BJP is not in power. In such a situation, BJP has expressed its strategy by betting on four new faces. Experts believe that BJP is seeing an opportunity in these states. In such a situation, by handing over the responsibility to the strong leaders, the party has started trying to take a big advantage in the assembly elections including the 2024 elections.
When will the Modi cabinet expand?
After these new appointments, speculations are being made that there will be a reshuffle in the Union Cabinet soon. Actually, Reddy is a minister at the Centre. The principle of one leader, one post is applicable in the party. In such a situation, Reddy will have to leave the post of minister. The news of reshuffle in the Modi cabinet is already doing the rounds for some time now. Now after these new appointments, it is believed that there will be a reshuffle soon. It is being said that some old allies may get a chance in the Modi cabinet.
Understand the meaning of BJP’s bet in Punjab
The BJP has killed two birds with one stone by inducting Sunil Jakhar, who left the Congress and joined the BJP. Jakhar, an old Congressman, has a long experience of working in Punjab and has a huge mass base with him. Second, by activating Jakhar before the Lok Sabha elections, the party wants to register a strong presence in the state. After the defeat in the Jalandhar and Sangrur bypolls, the BJP had thought of making changes in the state. Apart from this, BJP will promote Jakhar as a Hindu and Jat face. The party hopes that on the strength of Jakhar, BJP can show strength in the 2024 elections.
The command of Jharkhand is in the hands of a trustworthy face.
The BJP has handed over the command of Jharkhand adjoining Bihar to its old commander. Through Babulal Marandi, the party will not only contest the Lok Sabha elections, but will also contest the assembly elections under the leadership of Marandi. Actually, there was a time when Marandi used to be the eyes and ears of BJP in Jharkhand. But later after some estrangement, he left the party and formed his own party. In 2020, he again joined BJP and the party has now made him the state party president. Marandi has a huge base in Jharkhand. Apart from this, BJP has pitted him against Hemant Soren as a tribal face.
Will Reddy do wonders in Telangana?
The BJP has removed its state leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar and handed over the command there to Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy. Actually, the news of Sanjay Kumar’s removal was coming for some time but BJP was denying it. Kumar has been the face of BJP in Telangana. He won from Karimnagar in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Kumar had opened a front against the state’s K Chandrasekhar Rao government. But in recent times some voices of protest against Kumar were also heard. Apart from this, his name also came in the paper leak case. In such a situation, the party has handed over the command of the state to Reddy in place of Kumar as a precaution. Reddy has also been in BJP for a long time and has experience in the organization. This is the reason why Reddy has been entrusted with the responsibility of winning the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections by the party.
Big responsibility to D Purandeshwari
In Andhra Pradesh, the BJP has replaced the current president Somu Veeraraju and appointed D Purandeshwari as the state president. Purandeshwari is the daughter of former CM of the state NT Rama Rao. By handing over the responsibility to him, BJP wants to register its strong position in the state. Anyway, the party’s position in Andhra is weak. Through Purandeshwari, BJP will try to create mass base in Andhra. Even in the results of the survey, the performance of BJP in the Lok Sabha elections is not looking encouraging. In such a situation, the party has entrusted a big responsibility on the shoulders of Purandeshwari.
