Lucknow. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday released the list of 13 candidates from Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. While the party has given a second chance to former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi from Sultanpur, it has canceled the ticket of her son and Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi and has fielded Jitin Prasad in his place. This is the fifth list of the ruling BJP at the Centre. However, after declaring 51 candidates in the first list, the party did not announce any candidate for the state in the remaining three lists. A total of 13 candidates from Uttar Pradesh have been declared in the fifth list, in which the party has not given a chance to its nine sitting MPs.
The nine MPs whose tickets have been canceled by the party include Ghaziabad MP and Union Minister (Retired General) VK Singh, Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi, Santosh Gangwar from Bareilly, Satyadev Pachauri from Kanpur, Dr. Sanghamitra, daughter of former minister Swami Prasad Maurya from Badaun. Maurya, Upendra Singh Rawat of Barabanki, Hathras (reserved) MP Rajveer Singh Diler, Bahraich (reserved) MP Akshay Lal Gaur and Meerut MP Rajendra Aggarwal are included. In Meerut, the party has nominated cine actor Arun Govil, who played the role of Lord Ram in the Ramayana serial, in place of Rajendra Aggarwal; Whereas in Barabanki, District Panchayat President Rajrani Rawat has been made the candidate in place of sitting MP Upendra Singh Rawat, who was declared in the first list.
Varun Gandhi had opposed the government on many issues
An allegedly obscene video of Upendra Rawat was made public on social media, after which he refused to contest the elections. Varun Gandhi has been vocal against his party and government since the introduction of the three agricultural laws of the Centre. However, later the government withdrew these laws. He raised his voice against BJP on many issues including employment and health. However, the party expressed confidence in his mother Maneka Gandhi, who has been given the ticket again from Sultanpur. Both General VK Singh and Satyadev Pachauri had on Sunday expressed their ‘reluctance’ to contest the 2024 elections.

According to the BJP list, Raghav Lakhanpal from Saharanpur, Sarvesh Singh from Moradabad, Arun Govil, who played the role of Ram in the serial Ramayana written by Ramanand Sagar from Meerut, MLA and former minister Atul Garg from Ghaziabad, Satish Gautam, sitting MP from Aligarh, Hathras (Reserved ) from Aligarh’s Khair area MLA Anup Valmiki, from Badaun, Durgvijay Singh Shakya, from Bareilly, former minister Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar, from Pilibhit, State Public Works Minister Jitin Prasad, from Sultanpur, from Maneka Gandhi, from Kanpur, senior journalist Ramesh Awasthi, from Barabanki (reserved ) Rajrani Rawat and Dr. Arvind Gaur have been made candidates from Bahraich (reserved). In the first list of 51 candidates of BJP, women candidates got a chance on five seats in Uttar Pradesh; This time, out of 13 seats, women candidates have been fielded on two seats.

New faces got a chance in the first list also
BJP gave a chance to four new faces in the first list in which Legislative Council member Saket Mishra from Shravasti, Om Kumar from Nagina (SC), Ritesh Pandey from Ambedkar Nagar and Kripashankar Singh from Jaunpur were declared candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. This time, new faces have been given a chance for nine Lok Sabha constituencies, which include candidates from Ghaziabad, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Kanpur, Badaun, Barabanki, Hathras (reserved), Bahraich (reserved) and Meerut. BJP has again placed its bet on former MP Raghav Lakhanpal, who was defeated by Haji Fazlur Rehman of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) from Saharanpur in 2019. The party has also given a chance to Sarvesh Singh in Moradabad. Sarvesh Singh was defeated by Dr. ST Hasan of Samajwadi Party (SP) in 2019 and this time too he will face Dr. Hasan. The party has also re-expressed confidence in its current Aligarh MP Satish Gautam and Sultanpur MP Maneka Gandhi.
