In Karnataka, Congress on Friday had targeted the ruling BJP at the Center by comparing it to ‘Chombu’ (empty pot) in its advertisements, on which the BJP has now hit back. Both parties have accused each other of doing nothing for the state. Lota is called ‘Chombu’ in Kannada language, which is considered a symbol of ‘deceit and hollowness’.
BJP has released an advertisement today terming the Congress government as dangerous for Hindus, in which 9 incidents have been mentioned against Hindus during the Congress government. BJP has written on its social media handle
- Should the money for the welfare of Dalits go to someone else?
- Should innocent people who had gone to have tea in the hotel become victims of a bomb blast?
- Should people traveling in autos fall prey to cooker bomb blasts?
- Should a college going student be a victim of love jihad?
- Are people needed to save those rioting in DJ Halli KG Halli?
- Should innocent Naxalites be sacrificed?
- Should another state get the Kannadigas’ rightful Kaveri water?
- Should the slogan of Pakistan Zindabad be heard in the Assembly?
- Should the cow dynasty go to the butcher to eat?
What is the empty pot case?
A war of words broke out after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was photographed sitting next to Janata Dal (Secular) party chief HD Deve Gowda at a rally. Deve Gowda was holding a newspaper in his hand, on the front page of which a blank advertisement of Congress was visible. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah posted a photo of PM Modi and Deve Gowda on Instagram. “Deve Gowda is showing the art to the artist,” he tweeted. After him, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar shared the same picture on the micro-blogging site with the caption “Poetic Justice”.
However, BJP immediately reacted to this. On Twitter, BJP posted a picture of Siddaramaiah holding an ’empty lota’ in 2013.
Let us tell you that Congress had alleged in a sarcastic campaign against BJP in Karnataka that Modi government has gifted Chombu (Lota) to the state government, after which a round of allegations and counter-allegations has started between both the parties. The full page advertisement in the newspapers along with a picture of a round shaped vessel made of steel, had the text in Kannada, “Modi government’s gift to Karnataka – Chombu!” Congress alleged that the people of Karnataka would have to pay Rs. 15 crore in everyone’s account. ‘Chombu’ has been received in return for promises of depositing lakhs of rupees, doubling farmers’ income, tax transfer and providing drought and flood relief to the state. While appealing to the voters, Congress had said, “The contribution of 27 BJP and JDS MPs in the state is ‘Chombu’. Let us give ‘Chombu’ to BJP in this election.
