new Delhi. A BJP fact-finding team probing the Birbhum incident on Wednesday claimed that the Trinamool Congress-led mafia was ruling West Bengal in connivance with the police and political leadership. The members of the committee include Rajya Sabha member and former IPS officer Brij Lal, Lok Sabha member and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh, West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar, MP and former IPS officer K.C. Ramamurthy and national spokesperson and former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh.
According to the report submitted to party chief JP Nadda, the law and order situation has completely collapsed. The law-abiding citizens of West Bengal have lost faith in the government and the way the TMC is governed, as the officials themselves have become a quagmire in the TMC hierarchy.
“The massacre in Bagtui village is the result of state-sponsored extortion, goonda tax, toll-baazi and rivalry between its illegal beneficiaries. It was only after the BJP fact-finding team reached Kolkata that the Chief Minister of West Bengal decided to visit the site. “
It further claimed that due to the visit of the ‘forced’ CM, the team was stopped and its visit was foiled by TMC goons, who were intent on attacking the team.
The report said, “Not a single officer/constable of West Bengal Police was visible, no facts came to the rescue of the search party when he was attacked and for the committee to visit the crime scene.” The road was cleared. Our attempts to contact the DGP and other officials failed.”
It is learned that SDPO and police inspector were present near the spot, but even after being informed, they did not bother to visit the spot. They were not even allowing the fire brigade to reach the flames. Their timely intervention could have saved precious lives.
The team in its report said, “Local residents have left their homes fearing danger to their lives and property. In view of this, it is recommended that the NHRC, National Commission for Women and National Commission for Women and Child Rights Bagtui Visit the village and take confidence building measures for the early return of the people in the village to their homes.”
The report recommended that All India Service officers serving in West Bengal should be made aware of their constitutional obligations and that the Center should strictly caution them.
It is learned that Nadda appreciated the role played by the team in difficult circumstances. The BJP President reiterated about the party’s mandate to work for truth, justice and overall welfare of the people irrespective of caste, creed and community.
Nadda thanked the Calcutta High Court for handing it over to the Central Forensic Laboratory to collect samples and evidence from the massacre scene.
The BJP President also thanked the Calcutta High Court for directing the installation of CCTV cameras at the crime scene and protecting the crime scene and ordering a CBI inquiry into the entire incident, which was one of the demands of the fact finding team.
