Japanese automaker Toyota is going to launch its pickup Hilux in India on 23 January, bookings for which have started with booking amount ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh. To recall, Toyota’s Hilux lifestyle captures the entire segment of pickup trucks, as the only rival currently available in the range is the Isuzu D-Max.
The Toyota Hilux is built on the same platform as the Innova and Fortuner, and is powered by 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engines. The Hilux is built on the IMV-2 platform, which is also the base platform for the Innova Crysta and Fortuner. So obviously, many features like engine, gearbox, four-wheel-drive system and suspension components will be shared with these cars. According to the information received, the length of the Hilux is 5,285 mm and its wheelbase is 3,085 mm. For example, the length of the Fortuner is 4,795 mm.
On the inside, the Hilux could share many features with the Fortuner in India. Features such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also expected on the Hilux. This means the Hilux will have a comfortable interior, though the legroom in the second row is not expected to be as big as that of the Fortuner. That’s all we have about this pickup at the moment, but the full features list for the Indian-spec model will be revealed at launch.
The Isuzu D-Max is the only lifestyle pickup truck currently on sale in India and will also be the only rival to the Toyota Hilux when launched. Talking about the price, the current price of Isuzu has been fixed at Rs 18.05 lakhs to Rs-25.60 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). While there is no news about the price of the Hilux, but sources suggest that it could be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
