New Delhi. West Indies achieved a historic win against Australia in Brisbane. In the second test match of the two-match series, they defeated the Kangaroo team by eight runs and leveled the series 1-1. Australia won the first test by ten wickets. The win is West Indies’ first on Australian soil since 1997, while their previous win was in Perth. After West Indies’ victory, former captains Brian Lara and Carl Hooper became emotional in the commentary box and their video went viral on social media. After West Indies’ victory, Lara, who was keeping wicket with former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist, had tears in his eyes. Seeing Lara’s emotional state, Gilchrist hugged her and the touching moment was widely appreciated. Despite their team’s defeat, Lara and Hooper stood by the opposition, demonstrating sportsmanship.
Lara and Hooper were the heroes in West Indies’ last win on Australian soil. Both were part of the team when West Indies last won a Test match in Australia. Lara scored 132 runs in the first innings and Hooper contributed 57 runs in that victory. After that victory, West Indies had to wait for 27 years to taste success again on Australian soil.
