Amidst the political storm in Britain, PM Boris Johnson has resigned. Within 24 hours, 40 ministers resigned, increasing the pressure on Boris Johnson even more. These resignations started with Finance Minister Rishi Sunak and Health Minister Sajid Javid. Boris Johnson announced his resignation after addressing the nation on Thursday. But what happened suddenly that such a crisis arose in front of Boris Johnson? Actually, the name of Chris Pincher has come up at the center of this whole rebellion, who is accused of sexual abuse. In February this year, Boris Johnson appointed Pincher as deputy chief whip.
In July 2019, Pincher found a place in the Johnson government and was then made housing minister. He was made deputy chief whip by Johnson in February this year. On June 29, two complaints were revealed against the 52-year-old MP over his conduct at the Carlton Club in Piccadilly, London. She was accused by two men of touching her in an objectionable manner while intoxicated. When the pressure on this increased, Pincher had to resign from the post of Deputy Chief Whip.
After the newspaper report surfaced, his own party alleged that Boris Johnson was aware of Chris Pincher’s allegations, yet no action was taken against him. The prime minister was accused of not acting on the allegations against Pincher and of giving him a place in the government despite being aware of the whole matter.
On 1 July, the government claimed that Boris Johnson was not aware of Pincher’s misconduct, but said on Monday that the PM was aware of the allegations “either settled or after a formal complaint”. No further action was taken.” On Tuesday, Simon McDonald, the senior-most bureaucrat at the UK Foreign Office between 2015 and 2020, said the PM had been briefed about the pincher. Macdonald said Boris Johnson was personally briefed about Pincher’s investigation during his tenure as Foreign Office minister in 2019.
