Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday handed over a check of Rs 10 lakh as assistance to the families of workers who lost their lives in sewerage during pump repair at Delhi Jal Board, Kondli STP. Also, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, one member of the victim’s family will also get a job in the Jal Board.
On Thursday, the Deputy Chief Minister visited the Biharipur village of Delhi and met the family of the deceased Yashdev and also met the family members of the deceased Nitesh in his village located in Bulandshahr.
During this, Manish Sisodia said that, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has instructed that the victim’s family should not wander for assistance and the government itself should go to their homes and provide them assistance. The victim’s family has lost its member, this amount cannot fill the lack of that member, but will help his family to live a dignified life and the government will also give job to 1-1 member of the victim’s family.
The Deputy Chief Minister further said that it is very painful for the workers to die in the sewer during pump repair. Delhi government has made very strict rules in the matter of cleaning the sewer, but sometimes some contractors violate the rules and take the laborers into the sewer without fully following the safety rules.
He said that it would be ensured by the government that all necessary measures are taken to prevent such accidents in future. The Delhi government is conducting an inquiry into the incident and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
