New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken major action against a racket in Delhi’s RML Hospital. Nine people, including two doctors, have been arrested for extorting money from patients in the name of treatment. The arrested persons include suppliers of medical equipment. They allegedly operated a racket, extorting huge sums of money from patients who came to the hospital for treatment. CBI has also raided 15 places related to doctors and suppliers of medical equipment.
Dr. Parvatagowda, assistant professor at RML Hospital, was arrested with a bribe of about Rs 2.5 lakh received through UPI. Additionally, Rajneesh Kumar, senior technical in-charge of the cath lab of RML Hospital, was also arrested. CBI has accused a total of 16 accused in its FIR. According to sources, the accused were involved in corruption through five modules and extorted money from patients on various pretexts. They facilitated the supply of stents and other medical necessities, provided fake medical certificates, and admitted patients in exchange for bribes.
The CBI acted on the basis of credible information which suggested large-scale corruption involving doctors and staff at RML Hospital who were directly or indirectly colluding with companies to extort money from patients. Dr Parvatagowda and Professor Dr Ajay Raj, along with representatives of medical companies, were allegedly involved in openly accepting bribes. Dr. Parvatagowda regularly received bribes from Narish Nagpal, owner of Nagpal Technologies Pvt Ltd, for the use of medical equipment. Further, on March 26, 2024, Dr. Parvatagowda demanded a bribe from Abrar Ahmed for the supply of equipment, which was later transferred to his bank account. The arrested persons will be produced in the court for further proceedings.
