New Delhi. NCERT has made many important changes in the history book of class 12th. These changes have been made for the academic year 2024-25. NCERT has informed CBSE about these changes. In many board schools including CBSE, only NCERT books are taught to the students.
According to the news of the English newspaper Indian Express, the most important change has been made in the chapter ‘Bricks, Beads and Bones-The Harappan Civilization’ of History Part-1 for class 12th. The latest evidence found from archaeological sites has been given a place in this chapter. In this chapter it has been told that the Harappan civilization continued continuously for 5000 years. In this, the old theory of arrival of Aryans from outside has been declared wrong by giving evidence obtained from the excavation done in Rakhigarhi. Information has also been given in this chapter that the people of Harappa used some kind of democratic system. There are also 3 paragraphs given in the chapter on DNA research of things found in Rakhigarhi. These research revealed that the people living in Harappa were from this region only and did not come from outside.
NCERT has also said that the history of the inhabitants of Harappa was 10,000 years old before Christ. It has also been told that traces of DNA of the Harappan people are still found in the people of South Asia. It is also said in one sentence that further research is needed to find out the relationship between the Harappan people and the Vedic people. This is because some scholars say that both of them were one and the same. NCERT has also done away with describing landowners as Hindus in the Class 6 history book. In the 7th class history book, caste background has been replaced with social background. Earlier in the 12th class sociology book, it was told that Scheduled Castes and Tribes had poverty, social problems and powerlessness. NCERT has also removed these words. Changes have also been made in tribal conflicts and impact of dams. The picture of communal violence has also been removed from the Class 12 Sociology book.
