Abhijit had said at that time that ‘girls dress up in the day and take out candle marches and go to discos at night’. It has become fashionable to protest by holding candles. He had said that we have also lived a student life, we have been students. I know very well what the character of a student should be.
Abhijit Mukherjee’s statement was condemned everywhere
Abhijit Mukherjee had said that the women protesting in Delhi are not students. In fact, there are many such women who have nothing to do with reality. This statement of the then President’s son created a political uproar at that time. Even Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha expressed surprise at her brother’s statement. After the controversy escalated, Abhijit Mukherjee had apologized. Abhijeet had said that I apologize to all those people whose sentiments have been hurt due to these sentences and we withdraw our statements.
