Dehradun. In the first fortnight of the Chardham Yatra which began on May 10, more than 50 devotees have died on the Yatra route. Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told in a press conference here that 52 devotees who had come for the Chardham Yatra have died and most of them died of heart attack. He told that three devotees died in Gangotri, 12 in Yamunotri, 14 in Badrinath and 23 in Kedarnath.
Pandey said that health check-up of devotees above 50 years of age has been made mandatory on the Chardham Yatra route and they are being advised not to travel if they have any serious health problem. He said that if devotees stick to their decision to travel, they are being allowed to go ahead after filling a form. He said that continuous efforts are being made to improve the arrangements on the Chardham Yatra route.
Garhwal Commissioner said that so far 9,67,302 devotees have visited the Char Dhams. He said that the Yatra is going on smoothly in all the four Dhams. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed that the safety and convenience of the devotees is of utmost importance.
