Tonk. The marriage of a minor girl to be held in Tonk district on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya was stopped from the activeness of the District Legal Services Authority. This marriage was decided by a youth resident of Amariya Bull, Tehsil Indragarh, District Bundi of a minor girl in Naundpura, Thana Mehndwas area. The date of marriage was kept Akshaya Tritiya.
As soon as the authority received this information, the District Collector and Superintendent of Police were informed under the direction of Secretary Dinesh Kumar Jalutharia. Thereafter, a legal awareness team was formed which included Assistant LADC Nipun Chauhan and Adhikar Mitra Chandrakala Sharma.
The party reached the girl’s house and informed the family about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and explained that the marriage in a minor state is harmful to the mental, physical and social development of the girl child.
After counseling, the family decided to postpone the marriage, which was averted due to another child marriage.
This action was taken under the instructions of Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority Jaipur and the prevention of child marriage.
This initiative in the society is considered to give a strong message that child marriage will no longer be tolerated in the name of tradition in the name of collective festivals.
