Senior Chinese officials told Russian leaders in early February not to attack before the end of the Winter Olympics. The New York Times has claimed this in its report. The report quoted Biden administration officials and a Western intelligence report as saying this.
According to the report, top Chinese officials were aware of Russia’s plan to attack Ukraine. The friendly country’s plan was also informed to Chinese President Xi Jinping by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, long before the Alan-e-Jung.
On the other hand, Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, has denied this report. He said that this is speculation without any basis. While the US State Department and the intelligence agency CIA have not yet commented on this report.
Russian President Putin invaded Ukraine on February 24, despite repeated warnings from Western leaders. Just a few days after the end of the Winter Olympics 2022, Putin attacked Ukraine from three directions, North, East and South.
On February 4, Putin and Jinping met on the sidelines of the opening of the Winter Olympics. In this, both the leaders agreed to increase further cooperation against Western countries. Many countries, including the US, had a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics. US officials have confirmed that Washington had provided intelligence to senior Chinese officials on the deployment of Russian forces around Ukraine. He hoped that China would persuade Russia not to do so, but it did not happen.
