Chennai. The Indian spinner, who played his 100th Test in the recent series against England, showed an amazing performance in a memorable match. Indian team’s head coach Rahul Dravid hopes that Ravichandran Ashwin will not retire for the time being. Former coach Ravi Shastri wants him to trouble the batsmen for at least two years. At the same time, Anil Kumble is surprised at not playing him regularly in the Indian team abroad.
Ashwin is rich with rare talent, no statement is needed for this. That these three national coaches (one current and two former coaches) said such things about this bowler on the same evening, on the same stage and at the same time shows the level of ability of this player. Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) organized a felicitation ceremony to celebrate Ashwin’s achievement of completing 100 Tests and crossing 500 wickets.
On the occasion of the program, Dravid said, “There is still a lot of game left in him.” He has perfected the art of spin bowling through his hard work, dedication and innovation. That is a wonderful legacy. Brilliant, well done, you have inspired a whole generation of young spinners. He is always willing to contribute to the success of the team. Enjoyed the time spent with him.
Dravid finds it very special to see Ashwin looking for excellence and always being curious about the different uncertainties of the game. As a coach he considers it challenging. “The good thing about him is that he challenges you and that’s what you want as a coach,” he said. Ready for many more such memories with him. That’s the kind of player he is.
