Importance of Amarnath Yatra
According to mythology, in the holy cave of Baba Amarnath, Lord Shiva narrated the story of immortality to Mother Parvati. However, Mother Parvati fell asleep in the middle of the story. It is said that apart from Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, a pair of pigeons were also present in that cave, who had heard the story of immortality.

Lord Shiva did not want anyone other than Goddess Parvati to hear the story of immortality. Therefore, while leaving Kailash, he left Nandi, Ganesh ji, Vasuki and other Ganas on the way. The place which was left by Lord Shiva during the Amarnath Yatra is today named after him.
