New Delhi: Cold wave continues in many states of the country including Delhi-Haryana-Punjab. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold day alert for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh for the next 24 hours. Severe cold will also continue in most places of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar. The Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of cold day on 25 and 26 January. Along with this, there is no respite from fog in North India for the next five days.

The Meteorological Department said on Wednesday that today the minimum temperature remained between 3-6 degrees Celsius in most parts of Punjab, northern Haryana and isolated parts of north-western Uttar Pradesh. While Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar recorded minimum temperatures of 7-10°C. The lowest minimum temperature of 3.4°C was recorded in Ambala (Haryana) on Wednesday.

The Meteorological Department said that Haryana-Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, West Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura will see dense fog during the morning for the next two days.

The Meteorological Department has predicted snowfall in Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Apart from this, there is a possibility of rain in Andaman Nicobar Islands till January 28. The Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of snowfall in Himachal Pradesh from Thursday. There is a possibility of snowfall and rain in some higher and lower reaches of the hills on Friday and Saturday. There is a possibility of rain and snowfall in isolated areas across the state on Sunday.

There was some respite from the harsh cold in Delhi on Wednesday and the minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 8.3 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above the average temperature of this season. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, Delhi has experienced five cold days and five cold wave days so far in January, the highest in the last 13 years. According to the IMD, the city witnessed mainly clear skies and moderate fog.
