After conquering the fort of Punjab, the eyes of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are now fixed on Haryana. Congress’s tension has increased due to AAP’s knock in Haryana. In such a situation, Congress leaders of Haryana held a meeting at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s residence on Friday. Congress President Sonia Gandhi also attended this meeting. It is learned that measures were discussed to prepare the party for the state assembly elections to be held in 2024.
Haryana Congress chief Kumari Selja, state AICC in-charge Vivek Bansal, former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, AICC general secretary Randeep Surjewala, former state chief Kiran Choudhary and senior party legislators attended the meeting. Congress sources say the meeting is similar to what Sonia Gandhi had with Himachal Congress leaders earlier this week to win the next election.
Congress sources say the party does not want to repeat the 2019 election scenario where Bhupinder Singh Hooda was given overall election charge and Selja was brought in as state chief for only two months at the last minute to go to polls Was. At that time the Congress had lost some seats to the BJP-JJP alliance.
Sources have said that the Congress party is also seeing AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal being active in Haryana as a big challenge. Congress leaders feel that for AAP’s resounding victory in Punjab, there is a need for a change in the strategy of the Congress in the border states of Himachal and Haryana. Senior Congress leaders, however, feel that Kejriwal’s potential appeal among non-Jats of Haryana cannot be overemphasized.
