Ranchi. Congress on Sunday announced to field Yashaswini, daughter of former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay, in the election contest from Ranchi seat. The party has now made Pradeep Yadav its candidate from Godda in place of Deepika Pandey Singh. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said in a statement that the party’s Central Election Committee has fielded Yashaswini Sahay as its candidate from Ranchi seat, while in Godda, it has fielded Pradeep Yadav in place of MLA Deepika Pandey Singh.
On April 16, Congress had announced the nomination of Deepika Pandey Singh, Krishna Nand Tripathi and Anupama Singh as candidates from Godda, Chatra and Dhanbad respectively. The party had also announced the names of three candidates – Kalicharan Munda, Sukhdev Bhagat and Jai Prakashbhai Patel for Khunti (ST), Lohardaga (ST) and Hazaribagh constituencies respectively on March 27.
In Godda, Pradeep Yadav will face Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sitting MP Nishikant Dubey. The party has made Anupama Singh, wife of Bermo MLA Kumar Jaimangal Singh, its candidate from Dhanbad. In Dhanbad, BJP has not given ticket to sitting MP Pashupati Nath Singh this time. He has been representing this seat since 2009. BJP has fielded Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahato as its candidate in Dhanbad, against whom there are more than 20 criminal cases registered.
As per the seat-sharing agreement of the alliance in the state, Congress will contest on seven seats and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on five seats. Under the alliance, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) have been given one seat each. Voting for 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand will be held in four phases from May 13.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP had won 11 seats in the state, while the AJSU Party, Congress and JMM won one seat each. BJP has already announced candidates for 13 seats and has given Giridih seat to AJSU party.
