The Congress on Saturday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment on having the imprint of Muslim League on its manifesto, saying the Prime Minister is not familiar with his history as he was none other than the founder of Jan Sangh, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, who was in the 1940s. Was part of the coalition government in Bengal with the League at the beginning of the decade. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also accused the BJP of indulging in “politics of division”. Prime Minister Modi said in an election rally in Saharanpur on Saturday that the Congress manifesto reflects the same thinking which was in the Muslim League during the freedom movement.
PM Modi targets Congress manifesto
PM Modi also said that the Congress manifesto completely bears the imprint of the Muslim League and whatever part of it is left, the leftists have completely dominated it. Congress is not visible at all in this. Reacting to the Prime Minister’s comment, Jairam Ramesh said, “The Prime Minister does not know his history. In fact, he was none other than Mukherjee, president of the Hindu Mahasabha, who was in the coalition government with the Muslim League in Bengal. The Hindu Mahasabha was also in alliance with the Muslim League in Sindh and the North-West Frontier Province.
What did Jairam Ramesh say?
Ramesh said, “Not Congress, but BJP believes in the politics of division and also does so.” Let us tell you that earlier on Friday, Bharatiya Janata Party had described the Congress manifesto as a pack of lies. Accusing Congress, BJP had said that this party, which ruled the country for decades, did not fulfill any of the promises made in its manifesto for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said that Congress has brought such an election manifesto to create confusion among the voters.
