New Delhi: BJP President JP Nadda on Friday accused the Congress of wanting to snatch away the rights of SC, ST and OBC to benefit Muslims and this is the hidden agenda of the opposition party. Continuing BJP’s efforts to project Congress as a party advocating the interests of Muslims at the expense of traditionally marginalized Hindu groups, Nadda said the opposition party has been demanding for a long time the declaration of the minority community as SC and providing it reservation. Building base from time to time. He issued a statement through video as voting continued in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
Nadda quoted Manmohan Singh’s statement
Nadda cited the 2006 statement of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in which he had said that the minorities, especially Muslims, have the first right on the country’s resources. The BJP leader said Singh had made similar remarks in April 2009. The Congress has claimed that the ruling party has resorted to spreading lies and communal division to create polarization during the elections in view of the lack of public support. Nadda said the Congress has tried to give reservation to Muslims in some states, including Karnataka, where the BJP government had abolished reservation, but the Siddaramaiah government brought it back again.
‘An attempt was made for Muslim reservation in Andhra also’
The BJP Chief said that it had tried to give reservation to Muslims in Andhra Pradesh also, but it could not happen due to the order of the Supreme Court. He said the Congress in its 2009 election manifesto had promised reservation for Muslims in educational institutions and jobs through sub-quota in the Other Backward Class category. Nadda claimed that Congress’s stance against majoritarianism in the 2024 election manifesto underlines its ‘hatred’ towards SC, ST and OBC as they are the majority in the society.
‘Nehru always supported Muslims’
Nadda said, ‘False claims were made through the Sachar Committee report and it was said that the condition of Muslims is worse than that of Dalits. This means that Congress was preparing the ground to declare Muslims as SC so that they can be given reservation because they are Dalits. He said that B. R. Ambedkar had criticized Jawaharlal Nehru for not speaking about the welfare of Dalits in his speeches. He said that Congress has an old habit of snatching the rights of SC, ST and OBC. He claimed that Nehru always supported Muslims.
‘We do not want to ignore Muslims’
Nadda also said that he never wants Muslims to be neglected but they should not get unfair advantages at the cost of other communities. He said that people who need more security should get these benefits. He accused the opposition party of creating the impression that Muslims also have a Dalit community so that the minority community can get the benefit of SC quota. He said that Congress brought the law with the aim of overturning court decisions to end reservation for deprived Hindi communities in institutions like Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia.
BJP shared the clip of Manmohan’s statement
BJP also shared on its account on Muslims should get priority. BJP said, ‘He had clearly said that he stands by his earlier claim that Muslims should have the first right when it comes to resources.’ The party said it refutes Congress’s rumors and clarifications on its previous statement.
