New Delhi. The Congress, which has been facing continuous defeat in the elections, is preparing to organize a ‘chintan camp’ next month to discuss the future plan of the party. The main theme for the brainstorming session is the recent electoral setback in five states, where the Congress has once again been disappointed, while the BJP managed to retain all its four states. At the same time, the Congress was swept away by the AAP’s tsunami in Punjab.
The Congress is trying to rope in political strategist Prashant Kishor and on Saturday he presented a detailed roadmap for the 2024 elections. Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has constituted a committee to look into Kishor’s suggestions.
General Secretary, Organization, K.C. Venugopal said, “Prashant Kishor has given a detailed presentation on the 2024 election and the Congress President has appointed a small group to look into it and report within a week and after that the final decision will be taken.”
Congress leaders are meeting informally to discuss and finalize the agenda. Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will have major exams this year, then states like Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will have elections in 2023. These are the key states where the Congress has to win elections to perform and challenge the best.
The Congress knows that the road ahead is not easy, as the BJP is trying to open its cards cautiously. The recent violence may dent the prospects of the Congress in states where it has not been able to counter the agenda of polarisation.
Sonia Gandhi recently said that the road ahead is more challenging than ever. The party is now trying to corner the government on economic issues and despite not attracting the public, the party has raised the issues of rising fuel and LPG prices and rising prices. Some Congress leaders privately admit that the public cares less about inflation and the BJP’s polarizing agenda is on track and the Congress will have to devise a new narrative to attract people’s attention.
The Congress has been attacking the Center on the issue of inflation. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said inflation was at its highest level in the last 17 months and the prime minister should withdraw his ‘acche din’ statement.
The Congress has been targeting the government over inflation and has blamed it directly for the high prices. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Government should bulldozer on inflation and unemployment but instead BJP’s bulldozer is run out of hatred to create fear.”
“Inflation and unemployment has gripped the people in the country and the government should bulldozer over these problems but BJP’s bulldozer is driven by hatred to create fear.”
Sonia Gandhi, while addressing the Parliamentary Party on April 5, had said that the revival of the party is necessary for democracy and the election results were “shocking” and “sad”. He had said that it is important to prepare a roadmap and for that a ‘shivar’ (meeting) should be organized.
