New Delhi. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted raids at various places in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar against the Communist Party of India (Maoist) in connection with a conspiracy against India. NIA teams raided the hideouts of the accused and suspects at 11 places in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh and one place in Kaimur district of Bihar. During the raid, many digital devices including mobile phones, SIM cards and memory cards and documents like pamphlets of the banned Naxalite organization were seized.
The NIA had taken over the investigation of the case related to the arrest of five people following the recovery of CPI (Maoist) arms and ammunition, objectionable documents, literature and books in Ballia on November 10 last year. The agency had filed a charge sheet against four accused in the case on February 9, 2024.
According to the NIA investigation so far, the banned organization is making active efforts to increase its presence in the northern region including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The investigating agency spokesperson said that CPI (Maoist) leaders, workers and its sympathizers, over ground workers (OGWs) are trying to strengthen the position of the organization in the region.
