Tata Group has announced on Thursday that the construction of the plant in partnership with PSMC in Dholera, Gujarat will start this year. Tata Group (Tata Electronics) and PSMC will jointly build this plant at a cost of Rs 91,000 crore. According to Bhasha news, the construction of this plant will create more than 20,000 jobs here. The Union Cabinet has approved Tata Electronics’ proposal to set up a semiconductor manufacturing plant at Dholera in partnership with PSMC.

According to the news, this will be India’s first commercial semiconductor plant. Along with this, it will also be a means for Tata Electronics to enter the global semiconductor industry. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the Tata Group has a tradition of being a leader in many sectors in the country, and we are confident that our entry into semiconductor manufacturing will further this legacy.
Direct and indirect skilled jobs will be created
The Tata group company said construction of the plant will begin this year with a total investment of Rs 91,000 crore (US$11 billion) and will create more than 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs in the region. Tata Electronics has collaborated with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to set up India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled state-of-the-art plant.
Manufacturing capacity of the plant
The Dholera Semiconductor Plant will have a manufacturing capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month. Chips for applications such as power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCUs) and high-performance computing logic will be manufactured here, addressing growing demand in markets such as automotive, computing and data storage, wireless communications and AI. The government has today approved the construction of three semiconductor plants. The total investment in the three semiconductor units is estimated to be Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
