There is always a rift between husband and wife. Sometimes this rift also becomes the reason for divorce between the two. Even after divorce, the husband has to pay maintenance to the wife as a settlement of divorce. However, a case of divorce that came out from Israel is making a lot of headlines these days. A court in Israel has banned Australian citizen Noam Huppert from leaving Israel for divorcing his wife. Due to this, there has been a lot of uproar against this decision across Australia.
According to media reports, the Israel Court ruled in its decision that Noam Huppert cannot leave the country until 31 December 9999. In a way, Nom has been ‘imprisoned’ in the country itself. The court said that if Huppert wants to escape this punishment, then he will have to pay 3 million dollars i.e. 47 crores for the maintenance of the wife and the care of the children. The court said that if the Australian citizen pays $3 million, he can be released from punishment, otherwise he will have to stay in Israel. The case was taken up by British journalist Marian Azizi, who says that similar problems can happen to other citizens as well. Therefore, something has to be done in this matter, although till now they have not received any information from the Australian Embassy in this matter.
According to reports, this man living in Australia came to live in Israel with his two children in 2012. His wife had filed a divorce case in the court of Israel, whose decision was blown away. While Noam considers himself trapped, human rights activists have also raised questions on such punishment. Due to such punishment, Noam can no longer go out for vacation and even for work. Speaking to the Australian media, Noam said that there are many people like him who do not know much about the local laws related to divorce. Because of this he gets trapped.
