In a defamation case, a court of Judicial Magistrate of the first class on Thursday ordered Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Rajesh Kunte to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. This order has been given after the complainant Kunte filed an adjournment application.
The court had in March adjourned the hearing after rejecting the complainant’s request to produce another notary witness from Delhi. The hearing of the case filed by Kunte against the Congress leader was to begin on a day-to-day basis. However, it was adjourned for the second time on Thursday and the court asked the complainant to pay the fine.
Defense counsel Narayan Iyer said, “The complainant again requested for adjournment on Thursday, but the court rejected the application and asked Rahul Gandhi to pay Rs 1,000. Further hearing him on May 10.” Also ordered to produce evidence and witnesses on the date.
Rahul Gandhi in one of his speeches in 2014 held the RSS responsible for the death of Mahatma Gandhi, following which a defamation case was filed in the Bhiwandi court. The court had framed charges against Rahul Gandhi in 2018.
