The Indian Cricket Players’ Association has supported wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. On Tuesday, the Indian Cricketers’ Association condemned the journalist’s threat and made a statement in support of Saha. Along with this, the organization welcomed the decision of BCCI, in which it has been said to get the entire matter investigated. However, Saha had earlier said that he would not reveal the name of the journalist who made the threat. Their aim is not to end someone’s career.
Issuing an official statement on behalf of the Association of Indian Cricketers, President of the organization Ashok Malhotra said, “We accept that the media contributes significantly to the development of our game and players, but there is always a limit here, which cannot be crossed.” Whatever has happened in Saha’s case cannot be accepted and we appeal to the concerned media organizations to look into the matter and ensure that such things do not happen again.”
full support to saha
Indian Cricketers’ Association secretary Hitesh Majumdar said, “We will extend full support to Saha in these circumstances. No player should be threatened in this manner by the media or anywhere else. We appeal to the media to come in support of Saha.” And ensure that such incidents do not happen again. Any interaction between the media and the players should always be consensual.”
What is the whole matter?
On 19 February, the Indian team was announced for the T20 and Test series against Sri Lanka and Saha was dropped from the Indian team. After this a journalist messaged Saha and demanded an interview. The journalist wrote, “Do an interview with me, that would be great. If you want to be democratic, I won’t pressurize you. They pick one wicketkeeper, who is the best. You try to pick 11 journalists, who are my friends.” is not appropriate. Choose the one who can help you the most.”
When he did not get a reply, the journalist called him on WhatsApp, but Saha did not receive the call. The journalist then wrote in a threatening manner, “You didn’t talk to me, I’ll never interview you again. I don’t take humiliation easily and I’ll remember it. You shouldn’t have done that.” Saha shared the screenshot of the journalist’s message on his Twitter account and informed everyone about the incident.
Senior players supported
After this matter came to light, many veteran players including Harbhajan Singh to Virender Sehwag came in support of Saha. Ravi Shastri demanded an inquiry from the BCCI. He said that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly should intervene in this matter. According to the Times of India, the BCCI has also decided to investigate the matter. Saha was asked to name the journalist who had threatened him. The BCCI wants to investigate the whole matter and if this has happened to any player other than Saha, then it will be investigated.
Saha will not reveal the name of the journalist
In a conversation with The Indian Express, Saha has said that till now no official from the BCCI side has spoken to him. If he is asked to reveal the name of the journalist, he will say that he never intended to end someone’s career. For this reason, he did not reveal the name in his tweet. His aim was that everyone should know that the media is doing such a thing and players should not have to face such things in future.
