New Delhi. Tamil Nadu table tennis player Vishwa Deendayalan died and three of his teammates were injured in a road accident in Meghalaya. The tragic incident took place on Sunday when the 18-year-old Vishwa and three other tennis players from Tamil Nadu were on their way from Guwahati airport to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championships.
The taxi in which the four players were traveling collided with a 12-wheeler truck in Ri-Bhoi district, seriously injuring them while on their way to the World’s Nongpoh Civil Hospital. The other three injured players were taken to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong from Nongpoh.
Doctors said the three injured players are in stable condition and out of danger. Vishwas’ parents and other family members will go to Shillong to hand over his body. The teenager had won several junior, sub-junior and cadet titles at home and abroad.

Condoling Viswa’s demise, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted, “Saddened to learn that Deendayalan Vishwas, paddler from Tamil Nadu, passed away following an accident in Ri Bhoi district, when he was at the 83rd Senior National Table. Were going to Shillong to participate in the Tennis Championships.
