Date of By-Election Announced for 12 Rajya Sabha Seats: Voting will be held on 3 September for 12 Rajya Sabha seats, know how many seats are vacant in which states

New Delhi. The Election Commission has announced by-elections for 12 Rajya Sabha seats that have fallen vacant in different states of the country. Voting will be held on all these 12 seats simultaneously on September 3. Voting will be held from 9 am to 4 pm, after which counting of votes will begin at 5 pm and the results will be declared at the same time. Notification for 12 Rajya Sabha seats will be issued on August 14. The last date for filing nomination papers has been fixed as August 21. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on August 22. Nomination papers can be withdrawn till August 26 and 27.

Out of the total 12 vacant seats of Rajya Sabha, Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra have 2 seats each while Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana and Odisha have 1 seat each. According to the Election Commission, these seats have become vacant due to Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Sarbananda Sonowal from Assam, Misa Bharti and Vivek Thakur from Bihar, Deepender Singh Hooda from Haryana, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia from Madhya Pradesh, Udayan Raje Bhosale and Piyush Vedprakash Goyal from Maharashtra, K.C. Venugopal from Rajasthan and Biplab Kumar Deb from Tripura being elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, K. Keshav Rao from Telangana and Mamta Mohanta from Odisha recently resigned from the Rajya Sabha, due to which these two seats have become vacant.

Let us tell you that Mamta Mohanta was an old leader of Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal party and Rajya Sabha MP. Mamta had also resigned from Rajya Sabha and primary membership of BJD on 31 July. After this, Mamta Mohanta has joined BJP. Mamta had sent her resignation to BJD President Naveen Patnaik saying that Biju Janata Dal no longer needs me. I am a public servant and serving the people is my goal, so I no longer need to be in that party.
