New Delhi. The case of children dying in a fire in Delhi hospital has once again exposed all the flaws in the system. How the rules of fire safety are being flouted. This hospital, which is being run in a residential area, was situated in the middle of many houses. A cursory look at the area makes it seem that it is also a house in which people live. The people living nearby had complained to the concerned agencies about the hospital many times that the rules are not being followed. No attention was paid to those complaints.
The people of the area had said in their complaints that the constant movement of vehicles in the residential area causes noise. Vehicles are parked in front of people’s houses, the narrow road is constantly occupied by hospital vehicles and hospital staff. The process of storing and filling cylinders inside the hospital always continued in the residential area. The people living nearby claim that the concerned agencies were informed about this every day but no attention was paid to them.
There are about half a dozen people whose houses have been damaged due to the fire in the hospital. According to the rules, they can claim compensation by submitting the details of their damaged houses to the SDM of the area. This compensation can range from 10000 to 2 lakhs. Now let’s talk about the compensation to be given to the dead and injured in the accident. After this incident, PM Narendra Modi has already tweeted and announced to give ₹ 200000 to the deceased from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Apart from this, the state government i.e. Delhi government is assessing the situation and will soon announce compensation to the families of the dead and injured.

Overall, this incident of fire in the hospital has raised a serious question on the entire system. Under what circumstances was permission given to operate such a hospital in a residential area? Were fire prevention arrangements being followed in the hospital? Were the oxygen cylinders being filled in the hospital as per the measurement rules? What action was taken after the nearby people complained? When will the dependents of the dead and injured get compensation? Will a strong strategy or policy be made again to prevent such an incident from happening again? Everyone’s eyes will be on this in the coming days.
