new Delhi. The Delhi High Court on Friday sought a clear stand from the Center on reopening of the entire mosque complex at Nizamuddin Markaz and asked why the religious place cannot be fully opened. A bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri was considering the waqf board’s plea to reopen the shrine while considering the recent guidelines issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The board has approached the court to reopen the premises for religious purposes in view of the Shab-e-Barat festival and the coming month of Ramzan.
The Markaz is closed since March 3, 2020, following a spurt in Covid positive cases in the campus.
Advocate Rajat Nair, appearing for the Centre, had said in the last hearing that earlier five people were allowed to offer Namaz and this year also it can be done during religious festivals.
During the hearing on Friday, the bench asked, “Mr Nair, you please look at the directions that if there is no objection in opening the first floor, then what can be the objection in opening the remaining part, on your submission that the religious You don’t mind about festivals. Why not for everyday?”
As the counsel reiterated the earlier stand, the court listed the matter for March 14 for clarification from the Center in the matter.
The counsel for the petitioner argued that there is no reason why any restriction should be imposed and the mosque premises should not be opened.
