A Delhi-based lawyer on Saturday wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind, seeking reopening and re-investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits during 1989-90. Supreme Court lawyer Vineet Jindal said in his letter that thousands of people lost their lives in the targeted killings.
The lawyer said in his letter that after the massacre, successive governments assured justice to Kashmiri Pandits, but nothing happened.
He further said that 215 FIRs were registered and the cases were investigated by the J&K Police, but to no avail.
He further added, “Therefore, it certainly raises a doubt as to what kind of investigation was done for these FIRs and the central government is also responsible for ensuring justice to the families of the victims and punishing ‘terrorists like Yasin Malik’. who was one of the active participants of the genocide.”
The letter further said that there are many others like Malik who were actively involved in this massacre and are believed to be behind bars, but due to the ignorant attitude of the police officers and the liberal attitude of the previous governments, the victims were Justice has not yet been served.
It also argued that investigations relating to FIRs registered in genocide cases did not yield any fruitful results, but data of victims can be seen in various reports.
There have been contradictions regarding the number of Kashmiri Pandits killed in the massacre according to reports from various sources, revealing a huge variation in the figures.
Describing the magnitude of the incident, Jindal in his letter said that it was a horrific incident when the lives of Kashmiri Pandits turned into one of the worst nightmares with murder, gang rape, grenade blast, encounter, arrest, disappearance , which left the victims. Highlighting the 30-year delay in delivering justice in this case, the letter said that in such a dilapidated situation, the onus of investigation and punishment of the guilty mainly rests with the police officers of Jammu and Kashmir as well as the administration. Is.
