After South Delhi in the national capital, there has been a demand for closure of meat shops in East Delhi till April 11 during Navratri festival. To this Mayor Shyam Sunder Agarwal said, ‘So far it is an appeal. We do not even consume onion-garlic in Navratri. That’s why I have appealed to all meat sellers to understand Hindu sentiments and close their shops on those days. This will promote harmony.
Mayor Shyam Sundar Aggarwal further said, ‘That’s why I have this appeal to him. But apart from this we have a rule that on the days of Saptami, Ashtami and Navratri, slaughterhouses will not run. If slaughterhouses remain closed, meat will not be sold. Earlier, Mayor of Southern Corporation Mukesh Suryan wrote a letter in this regard to SDMC Gyanesh Bharti, in which he has highlighted the problems faced by the devotees due to the sale of meat during Navratri.
He has said in the order that the sale of meat and liquor should be banned in the entire Southern Corporation area during Navratri. In a letter, Mayor Mukesh said that during Navratri, he is completely vegetarian and abstains from non-veg, alcohol as well as certain types of spices.
He has said in the letter that during Navratri people go to the temple to worship. During this time people do not even eat onion and garlic. In such a situation, he may be uncomfortable with the meat shops around the temples. The mayor has written in the letter that some meat shops throw garbage in the gutter, due to which the nearby dogs roam there and it is also not good for the health of the people.
