Chennai. After achieving the status of the third largest party in the Lok Sabha after the BJP and the Congress, the DMK led its party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. The party is working on a plan to reach out to the national leadership with the grand opening of its party office in the national capital on April 2, in preparation for a national take on Stalin.
DMK Parliamentary Party leader and former Union Minister T.R. Balu has already extended invitations to BJP President JP Nadda, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders.
Party’s state organization secretary R.S. Bharti said the invitation extended to Amit Shah was a courtesy. He said AIADMK leaders have also been invited to the function.
It is no secret that Stalin is pursuing national ambitions and plans to lead a regional coalition against the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Where Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are meeting regional leaders at the Center for a possible alternative to the BJP-led NDA, while Stalin has an advantage with the Congress backing the DMK.
Top DMK leaders including Balu are planning to take Stalin on the national stage. Stalin’s father and late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Kalignar Karunanidhi had earlier entered into political ties with both the NDA and the UPA.
It remains to be seen how the DMK succeeds in promoting Stalin as an alternative regional leader as many other players aspire to the national role.
