Now Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind Chief Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani has also jumped in Varanasi’s Gyanvapi Masjid dispute case. Madani on Wednesday asked Muslim organizations not to interfere in the Gyanvapi Masjid dispute. The Gyanvapi Masjid dispute case is currently being debated at both the public and judicial levels.
In an official statement, Madani said, some nefarious elements and biased media are trying to create discord between the two communities by inciting religious sentiments. Madani told Muslim organizations that they do not need to take to the streets on the issue of Gyanvapi Masjid and also appealed to avoid all public demonstrations.
Madani said that the Masjid Intezamiya Committee (Masjid Management Committee) is a party in various courts of the country in this matter. It is believed that they will fight this case firmly till the end. He said that other Muslim organizations of the country are urged not to directly interfere in any court in this matter. If they want to help or assist in the matter, they can do so through the Masjid Arrangement Committee.
Madani has urged Ulama, speakers and TV debaters to refrain from participating in debates and discussions on the issue. He said that inflammatory debate on public and social media is not in the best interest of the country or the nation.
A petition filed in a Varanasi court in 1991 claimed that the Gyanvapi Masjid was built on the orders of Aurangzeb during his reign in the 16th century by demolishing a portion of the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
At present, the controversy got fueled when five Hindu women demanded regular worship of Shringar Gauri and other idols inside the Gyanvapi Masjid premises. After which the court had ordered for videography of the entire campus. At present, the court is hearing the matter.
