New Delhi: China does not desist from threatening the South China Sea and its surrounding countries. Besides, it also keeps occupying its Exclusive Economic Zone i.e. EEZ. China’s relations with the Philippines worsened after 2009 when China released a new map in which it marked its territory by drawing 9 dash lines in the South China Sea.
This also includes the islands and part of the EEZ of the Philippines and according to China, the threat of occupying the maritime areas of the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan and Malaysia has increased. Because China’s navy is the largest navy in the world today in terms of numbers. In such a situation, the Indian BrahMos is no less than an infallible weapon to counter it and the Philippines has started strengthening its navy to deal with China’s aggression.

BrahMos missile system sent to Philippines
To stop China, Philippines has signed BrahMos missile system agreement with India. Let us tell you that the contract for three missile batteries worth $374.96 million was signed last year in 2022 and the delivery of BrahMos anti-ship supersonic missile system was also done on Friday. The first consignment was sent to the Philippines via C-17 Globe Master of the Indian Air Force.
According to the agreement, India also provided training to the Philippines Navy on the operation and maintenance of this Sure Based Anti-Ship Missile System. Last year, the training of 21 Philippines Navy personnel was completed from January 23 to February 11. This training took place in Nagpur. After the completion of the training, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar himself gave missile badges to the people of the Philippines Navy. This information was given by the Philippines Marine Corps.
BrahMos one of the dangerous supersonic cruise missiles
This missile battery will be operated by the Coastal Defense Regiment of the Philippines Marine Corps. BrahMos is one of the most dangerous supersonic cruise missiles in the world. Its strike range is 290 kilometers i.e. the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines which is an area up to 200 nautical miles i.e. 370 kilometers from the coast and can easily target any Chinese warship coming within it. China rapidly started building artificial islands in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Philippines and apart from this, it has also been creating obstacles in the patrolling of the Philippines Navy and has also been chasing away the fishermen.
Indian reason for fear of China in South China Sea
If we talk about the siege of China, then it would not be wrong to say that the supersonic BrahMos Chakravyuh is being prepared against China in the South China Sea and its surrounding sea areas. Actually, Philippines has started receiving BrahMos; apart from this, many other countries have also shown interest in BrahMos missile. In which there are many countries including Indonesia, Thailand with whom talks are still going on in advanced stage. Last year itself, a BrahMos land version missile of the Indian Air Force was accidentally fired towards Pakistan and fell 100 kilometers inside Pakistan, but Pakistan’s radars could not even track it.

BrahMos range is being increased
India has also started working to increase the range of BrahMos. And that became possible when India became a member of the India Missile Technology Control Regime in 2016. This is an organization that controls the proliferation of long range missiles or long range drones. Under international law, no country can sell a missile with a range of more than 300 kilometers to another country. When India and Russia made BrahMos through joint development, its strike range was only 290 kilometers, but as soon as it became a member of MTCR in 2016, the way opened for India to increase the range of BrahMos and Russia has now officially launched BrahMos. Can help India to increase the range.
Due to this, work is going on to increase the range of BrahMos beyond 290 kilometers and Indian scientists are working to give it a strike capability of 400 to 600 kilometers. Recently, the Indian Air Force had successfully tested BrahMos Extended Range from Sukhoi fighter aircraft, which had a strike range of more than 400 kilometers. If China, the world’s most dangerous supersonic cruise missile system, joins the army of those countries through whose maritime borders Chinese energy trade proceeds, then it will be no less than a suffocating situation for China.
