new Delhi. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Sunday successfully test-fired a medium-range surface-to-air air defense system twice. The Air Defense System was successfully test fired by hitting high speed targets from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha. This system has been made for the army.
During the first test, the missile struck a target flying at a medium altitude from a long range. The second test was carried out from a short distance on the target flying at low altitude. The missile completely destroyed both the targets.
It has been developed by DRDO in association with Israel Aerospace Industries.
Several officers of DRDO and Army were present on the occasion of the test.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO and the Indian Army for the successful test, saying that both the tests have proved that the system is capable of hitting targets from different ranges.
Defense Research and Development Secretary and DADO Chairman Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team involved in the test and said that it is a milestone towards self-reliant India.
