The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has written to the Maharashtra government seeking details of six flats owned by Maharashtra Minority Development Minister Nawab Malik and his family members. Neeraj Kumar, assistant director of ED, wrote to the Joint District Registrar, Mumbai Suburban, on March 24. In writing, the ownership records of six flats belonging to the Malik family have been sought.
The properties include two flats in the name of Malik’s son Faraz. These are Flat No. 6 at Ghulamnabi Manzil, Santacruz (West) and Flat No. 501 at Bandra Vastu Bhawan in Bandra (West). The ED has also sought records of flat numbers B-03, C-2, C-12 and G-8 at Noor Manzil in Kurla (West). These flats are in the name of Malik and his wife Mehjabeen.
Since officials of the central agency suspect alleged irregularities related to the title of these properties, it has written to the government seeking official records.
Nawab Malik was arrested by the ED on February 23 in connection with the money laundering case registered against fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and some of his close associates. He is currently in judicial custody.
Malik’s arrest came after the ED raided several premises of people linked to Dawood Ibrahim. The house of Dawood’s late sister Haseena Parkar was also raided. Malik had carried out transactions related to Kurla property with Parkar during the last two decades.
The agency claimed that Malik had grabbed property in the Kurla-Goawala compound, which was worth about three acres and was valued at around Rs 300 crore. 5 lakh was reportedly paid to Parkar.
Malik had earlier claimed that his family company had bought a plot of land – the Goawala compound in Kurla, which was owned by Munira a plumber. He had given power of attorney to Mohammad Salim Ishaq Patel (who was the frontman of Dawood’s sister Haseena Parkar).
He had clarified that a part (300 m) of the complex was named after Sardar Shah Wali Khan, whose father was the watchman in the complex. Malik said that he paid Khan to hand over his rights over that plot.
