New Delhi. After the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has changed the DGP in West Bengal for the second time in 24 hours. The Election Commission has now ordered Sanjay Mukherjee to be made the new DGP. Earlier on Monday, the Commission had removed the then DGP Rajiv Kumar and appointed IPS Vivek Sahay as DGP. On the other hand, the Election Commission had ordered the removal of Home Secretaries of six states on Monday itself. Due to this order, in place of Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad, senior IAS officer Deepak Kumar has been posted as the new Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department of UP.

The new DGP of West Bengal, Sanjay Mukherjee is a 1989 batch IPS officer who was till now handling the responsibility of the fire department. It is noteworthy that after the order to remove former DGP Rajeev Kumar, the Election Commission had sought three names from the state government. After which three names were sent for DGP by the Mamta government of West Bengal. Sanjay Mukherjee’s name was at number two among them. A day after the Election Commission appointed Vivek Sahay as the new DGP, the Election Commission on Tuesday has approved the name of Sanjay Mukherjee.
On the other hand, Deepak Kumar, a 1990 batch IAS officer of UP cadre, is also the head of the Finance Department at present. But now, after the removal of IAS Sanjay Prasad due to the order of the Election Commission, Deepak Kumar has been appointed as the head of the Home Department. Deepak Kumar has also served in Firozabad, Jalaun, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Pauri Garhwal.
