Bengaluru: Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka are becoming interesting. Here, six children of ministers of the ruling Congress are trying their political luck in the election field and due to the campaigning of these leaders, the atmosphere is looking quite interesting. Prabha Mallikarjuna, wife of state minister SS Mallikarjuna, is also in the fray. Congress tried its best to field many ministers but no minister showed interest in it, although he proposed to give tickets to his family members.

A source associated with the party said that now the Congress leadership has a strong message to these ministers that “now do it.” ”In this way, the party has handed over the responsibility of making these ministers win for their children or relatives. Congress had won only one seat in Karnataka in the 2019 general elections but this time the party has set an ambitious target of winning in 15 to 20 constituencies.
Elections will be held on 26th April and 7th May
Elections for 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held in two phases on April 26 and May 7. Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Ishwar Khandare and HC Mahadevappa’s sons – Mrinal Ravindra Hebbalkar, Sagar Khandare and Sunil Bose have been fielded from Belagavi (Belgaum), Bidar and Chamarajanagar respectively. While Satish Jarkiholi, Shivanand Patil and Ramalinga Reddy’s daughters – Priyanka Jarkiholi, Samyukta Patil and Soumya Reddy – are contesting from Chikkodi, Bagalkot and Bengaluru South respectively. Prabha, wife of minister SS Mallikarjuna and daughter-in-law of senior party leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa, is the party’s candidate from Davanagere.
Congress President Kharge’s son-in-law also entered the fray
A source associated with the party said, “Even in these ‘do or die’ situations, the ministers are considering this Lok Sabha election as an opportunity to ‘launch’ their children. We have to see how these ministers succeed in their goal.” Apart from Sowmya Reddy, none of these candidates have experience in electoral politics. Soumya Reddy has been an MLA. The party has fielded Radhakrishna Doddamani, son-in-law of Congress president M Mallikarjun Kharge, from the family’s home constituency Kalaburagi (Gulbarga).
Kharge’s son and minister Priyank Kharge has taken charge of the campaign in the region, where his father lost in the 2019 general elections. A Congress leader said, “Priyank is taking this election as a prestige issue as the Congress president is from here and has previously represented this constituency in the Lok Sabha.” Had campaigned which was seen as a strong message for Congress.
